vMix nerds x AFC Futsal Asian Cup

The vMix Nerds recently went global! Tom Tailford and Chris Villota touched down in Jakarta, Indonesia, to provide technical leadership for one of the most prestigious events in the region: the AFC Futsal Asian Cup.

Futsal is a high-speed, high-intensity game, and the production needs to match that energy. Working across world-class venues in Jakarta, we stepped into the roles of Technical Directors, collaborating with a truly international team—including a fantastic local Indonesian crew and producers hailing from Russia and Costa Rica.

The Technical Powerhouse

To keep up with the fast-paced nature of the tournament, we deployed a super-versatile vMix rig designed for maximum agility. Our setup wasn't just about mixing video; it was the brain of the entire graphics and playback operation.

• Data-Driven Graphics: We built a dynamic graphics package fueled by Google Sheets. This allowed us to update lineups, red/yellow cards, and "Player of the Match" stats in real-time.

• Dynamic Playback: Beyond graphics, our vMix machine handled all commercial VTs, explainer segments, and the crucial "Video Support" (futsal’s equivalent to VAR) replays.

• Hardware Integration: Our vMix core worked in perfect harmony with a Blackmagic Design vision mixer, sound desks, and a suite of broadcast peripherals.

Precision Control with Companion

Because in Futsal every second counts, we didn't just "click and hope." We used Bitfocus Companion to drive the entire show. We created custom buttons to instantly recall player profiles the moment they scored or shown a card. Having the ability to create and tweak graphics on-site meant we could adapt to the tournament's evolving needs instantly.

From the opening whistle to the final trophy lift, the event went flawlessly. It was a masterclass in how a global team, clear communication, and a "nerdy" obsession with the right tech can produce a world-class broadcast.
