vMix nerds x AFC U23 Asian Cup

The vMix Nerds were back on the international stage recently, this time heading to Saudi Arabia for the AFC U23 Asian Cup. Representing our global network, James Love and Tom Tailford joined the venue teams to ensure the technical execution of this high-stakes tournament was nothing short of world-class.

Operating across four distinct venue teams, the project spanned several premier locations, from the coastal hub of Jeddah to major stadiums in Riyadh and Al-Khobar.

Custom Code Meets Broadcast Power

While we love out-of-the-box vMix features, this tournament required something a bit more "nerdy." Alongside our high-specification vMix machines—dedicated to flawless VT playout—we integrated custom-written software developed by James Love.

This bespoke application acted as the technical heart of the match-day presentation, managing:

• Precision Timers: Warm-up countdowns and official match clocks.

• Live Score Graphics: Real-time score updates as well as half time/full time graphics.

• Event-Driven Visuals: Instant graphics for yellow/red cards, goals, substitutions, and the "Player of the Match" announcements.

Streamlined Control

In a live stadium environment, speed and reliability are everything. To manage the complex flow of VTs and data-heavy graphics, we utilized a Stream Deck paired with Bitfocus Companion. This setup allowed our Technical Directors to trigger intricate sequences with a single press, ensuring the international production team—including producers and local sound operators—stayed perfectly in sync.
